Reese Witherspoon Wears Wedding Gown Designed by FIDM Alumna Monique Lhuillier

Reese Witherspoon chose a beautiful blush-hued gown with a Chantilly lace corset bodice and full tulle A-line skirt from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Alumna Monique Lhuillier. Witherspoons 11-year-old daughter Ava also wore a custom-made gown by the Los Angeles-based designer.

The Oscar winner was married to Jim Toth at her 1920s ranch in Ojai, California. After the ceremony, Witherspoon changed into another couture dress by Lhuillier for the reception a white silk mini dress with a festive party skirt. The evening was described as country elegant by People magazine. Stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, and Sean Penn were in attendance.

Lhuillier, who majored in fashion design at FIDM, launched her self-titled company in 1996 with a bridal collection. After becoming a top American wedding dress designer, Lhuillier added ready-to-wear and eveningwear in 2001. She has attracted fans such as Kristen Stewart, Drew Barrymore, Hilary Swank, and Katie Holmes. There are Monique Lhuillier salons in Beverly Hills and Minneapolis.

I didnt know how to cut and sew before I came to FIDM, Lhuillier explains. When I was a student I was full of dreams and knew I loved clothing, but I was also scared. I was fortunate that I could start my own line and risk it all. In addition to her success in fashion, Lhuillier designs a tabletop collection for Royal Doulton, stationery and fine paper, and a bed, bath, and home collection.
